New Obsession

On a whim yesterday, I decided to paint the living room and hallway even though I have way more important things to do, such as find a job and study for boards which is in less than a month! I promise, after this living room project, I will start. Hopefully the painting will be finished tonight. Except then I will want to decorate and get our new sectional...

Anyways, the reason why I wanted to write this blog post is to tell you about the new paint I used. In the other rooms of our house, we used Valspar Signature. Good paint, but it always gave me a headache and then Cody would have to finish painting. And with it being winter, I couldn't really open all the windows and doors to get let the fumes out. So, as usual, I was reading other DIY-ers blogs and they always used no-VOC paint from Olympic. I thought it was going to be more expensive than Valspar so I was very excited to see that it was actually about $10/gallon cheaper!!!! It's only $20/gallon of flat paint. That's awesome and it doesn't smell at all! I have a new love and will not use anything else. That's all!

Let's Begin

Cody and I are starting this blog mainly because we were bored last night and after reading other couple's blogs on DIY home improvement, we thought this might be a fun way to capture our house projects and see how it evolves until the day we sell it. We'll see how long this lasts. For now, I will try to start at the beginning.

We (and when I saw "we", I mean Cody) bought our first home in May 2011 and moved in July 8th. It's a 1954 ranch house in Webster Groves, MO sitting on top a hill. It has about 1200 sq ft on the main floor thanks to an addition in the 1980s which added a bedroom and master suite. Compared to all the other houses we saw in our price range and preferred area of STL, this house was a no-brainer. I am terrible at making decisions and even I decided by noon the day we saw it that we must get it. Not only was it one of the lower priced homes, but it also had three good-sized bedrooms, lots of closet space, a basement and 2 full bathrooms. Most of the others were cramped into around 900sq ft and only 2 bed/1bath. The bummers about it are that it doesn't have a garage, just a carport, and we bought it from a house-flipper which is kind of scary because the quality of some of their quick renos isn't the best. However, we still felt that the goods outweighed the bad and we went for it.

So that is the gist of the story of our first home. Now to plan our next project!
